It’s an opportunity to improve your community while enjoying Indiana’s beautiful outdoors!

If you live in Indiana and are between the ages of 16 and 24, you may be eligible to participate in a brand new program known as Young Hoosiers Conservation Corps. This program will partner with the Department of Natural Resources to beautify Indiana’s 33 state parks and reservoirs. Participants will have the opportunity to reconstruct historic buildings, create 113 miles of new trails, renovate over 1,1000 miles of existing trails, and work to restore 2,600 acres of natural habitats.

Are you interested in working IU South Bend graduation day at Notre Dame at the JACC from noon – 8:30 p.m. as a host/hostess? Graduation is Tuesday, 5/12.  It is a fun day. You get to meet a lot of people. Pay is minimum wage. You will be on your feet most of the day and probably doing a lot of walking. The JACC is a BIG building.

Please let me know if you are presently working for the university - this affects the amount of paperwork that you will need to fill out. If you are interested, please plan on attending a planning meeting on either:  April 13 or April 14 in the Alumni Room from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

If you can’t make the meeting, please call me to set up an appointment. You will need to fill out paperwork.  If you are working for the university, you cannot exceed a total of a 40 hour work week. You must already have a social security card to work.

SENATE INTERNSHIPS

SPRING AND SUMMER INTERNSHIP - The Senior Senator from Montana seeks
enthusiastic and bright individuals, who pay great attention to detail, are
self-motivated and have passion for understanding the legislative process
and how current legislation affects Montana and the Nation.  Interns are
employed for each academic semester and during the summer months for either
a 6 or 8 week duration. Interns may select either part-time or full-time
status to correspond with their schedules. The interns in Senator Baucus'
office gain knowledge and experience in three areas of operation:
legislative, administrative, and press. Interns are assigned specific
legislative topics and often do in-depth research, attend hearings and
briefings as well as assist with all office operations, as necessary.
Interns also get to experience votes and debates that are held on the Senate
Floor as well as give tours of the US Capitol!  As an intern's contributions
to the office are important, a responsible commitment, willingness to work
hard, and a positive attitude are essential to the success of an intern's
experience.  While the positions are unpaid, interns agree that this
experience gives them valuable insights into the workings of the U.S.
Congress and a chance to help serve fellow Montanans. Please send your

SPRING INTERNS – The Democratic Staff of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small
Business and Entrepreneurship is seeking spring interns to work beginning
immediately through
May 2009 (dates somewhat flexible).  Interns will be
expected to provide administrative support, assistance in researching
legislative and regulatory issues, as well as other general help with tasks
necessary to run the Committee.  College students with junior or higher
standing and law school students are encouraged to apply.  Applicants should
have strong interpersonal skills, an exemplary academic record, and a

SENATE INVESTIGATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE UNPAID SUMMER INTERNSHIP
The Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI), of the Committee on
Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, is looking for undergraduate and
law students to work closely with the Subcommittee's Democratic staff on
investigative and legislative issues, cover Congressional hearings and
briefings, and assist in office administration beginning in May.  Requires
ability to operate in fast-paced environment with minimal supervision,
excellent research skills, and willingness to perform clerical and telephone
duties.  Minimum of 20 hours per week; full time given preference.  Please

DEFENSE INTERN – Senior Florida Senator seeks full-time, unpaid intern for
up to six months to assist busy national security staff.  In addition to
general administrative duties, intern will help staff prepare the Senator
for hearings, meetings and travel, track legislation and budget requests,
and follow-up with Department of Defense agencies and academic and industry
groups.  Qualified candidates should have excellent skills in research,
attention to detail, and oral and written communication.  Candidates with
previous work experience, military experience and/or students studying
national security policy, public administration, or international relations
are preferred.  This internship is designed to be an opportunity for those
seeking congressional staff experience in aspiration of paid staff
employment in national security affairs on Capitol Hill.  Please submit

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY – Senior Democratic Senator seeks applications for a
full-
time internship position in the Washington, DC personal office.  
Duties will include, but are not limited to the following: archiving office
files, transcribing press mentions, conducting research, drafting memos,
data management, assisting with mailing projects, sorting mail, distributing
newspapers, and corresponding with constituents via telephone, mail and
facsimile. A strong applicant will have solid written and oral communication
skills, a high propensity for academic achievement, and the ability to work
diligently and upon instruction in a fast-paced work environment.  
Applicants should be available for a minimum of 4 weeks beginning
immediately and preference will be given to those able to devote a
substantial amount of hours during the 5-
day work week (excepting federal
holidays).  Those in externship programs are especially encouraged to apply.

SPRING INTERNS – Northeast Democrat is seeking unpaid Spring Interns in his
Washington office.  Interns will be paired with legislative staff based on
their interests and experience and will be conducting research, writing
letters, and supporting the legislative staff.  Additional administrative
support work will also be required.  Internships are unpaid.  If your
institution allows or requires college credit, that can be arranged.  Our
office is interested in Interns with all majors and backgrounds.  Preference
is given to applicants from New Jersey. To apply for an internship please

- Midwestern Democratic Senator seeks unpaid press intern for
the spring semester. The press intern will work closely with the press
office and assist in compiling daily clips, maintaining press lists,
assisting in website management, attending legislative hearings,
transcribing remarks, some writing projects, and various administrative

PRESS INTERNS
-The office of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) seeks press
interns for fast-paced, aggressive press office.  Press interns will work
closely with Communications Director, Press Secretary, and Press Assistant
on a variety of tasks. Responsibilities include answering the press line and
fielding calls from reporters, working with press office and legislative
staff to compile reports and other documents for media distribution, working
with Press Assistant to compile daily press clips for Senator's review, and
coordinating daily update of reporter contact lists. Position requires a
keen attention to detail, the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines,
and the ability to demonstrate professionalism and discretion at all times.
Strong writing and grammar skills and proficiency of Microsoft Office
applications required. Journalism/communications background and Ohio ties a

DC Youth Advisory Council Internship:

About the DC Youth Advisory Council (DCYAC): The overall purpose of the DC
Youth Advisory Council (DCYAC) is to give a voice to the District's youth in
advising key leadership in the city about polices, programs and actions that
affect youth. Through this work, the council will be influential in ensuring
that decisions that affect young people have been carefully considered and
incorporate their concerns and perspectives. The council will work to bridge
the gap between adults and youth, fostering a greater sense of unity,
communication and partnership throughout the city.

About the DCYAC Summer Training Academy: In the summer of 2008, the DCYAC
launched the inaugural DCYAC Summer Training Academy. The program is
comprised of 50 students from across the District who will learn about
issues such as civic engagement and leadership development, public policy
and advocacy, etiquette, financial literacy, and more. Held over the course
of 10 weeks during the summer, participants will engage in hands on
activities that will help to develop their confidence and train them to
become the next generation of leaders in the District of Columbia.

Responsibilities:


·         Assist DCYAC staff with administrative duties

·         Assist with the outreach, selection of, and supervision of DCYAC

        high school interns

·         Maintain payroll and attendance for summer youth participants  

·         Update the DCYAC website, blog, and listserve frequently

·         Attend community events, hearings, and meetings pertaining to

        District youth issues (i.e. youth violence, education, health)

·         Assist with the coordination of the DCYAC programs, facilitators

        and trainers,  and activities

·         Research issues affecting young people in the District of Columbia

·         Assist with outreach, selection of, and supervison of summer youth

        participants

·         Monitor District youth related issues and communicate them to DCYAC

        Councilmembers, Ward Advisors, Adult Advisors, and parents

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:


·         Must be a college junior or senior

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Experience working with youth (ages 13-22)

·         Experience with youth organizations, community organizations, and/or

        government agencies

·         Self motivated, outgoing, organized, detail oriented, and skill with time

        management

·         Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends if necessary

·         Website design/computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher,

        HTML, etc.)

Compensation/ Duration:
Paid internship with the potential for college credit.  Program Assistant(s)

Democracy: A Journal of Ideas Internship
The Democracy: A Journal of Ideas internship is a highly selective program
for a small number of the most talented, progressive college writers,
editors, and thinkers in America.

While demanding and time intensive, it is geared toward giving college
students a link into future careers in the world of progressive ideas.
Interns will assist in administrative tasks as well as learn about all the
parts of putting a journal together from article selection to copyediting
and fact-checking. They should be interested in deepening their exposure to
a wide range of policy issues and interacting with some of the most
cutting-edge progressive thinkers across a variety of fields.

We are now accepting applications for our summer internship program on a
rolling basis. The internship will begin in June and end in August, is five
days a week, and pays a $500 monthly stipend. Applicants should have
distinguished themselves in their academic work thus far. The internship is
